Race Report: August 2019 (2)

The second half of August has seen Sarn Helen shirts appearing across Wales, as well as over the border, with a clink of medals and achievement of personal bests.

In another busy month for Sarn Helen Running Club, senior and junior members continue to take part in a wide range of challenges, supporting events across the region, encouraging participation at all levels and achieving fabulous results.

July 2019 Race Report

Porthcawl 10k

Sunday 7thJuly 2019 heralded the first Healthspan Porthcawl 10k, the third in the Healthspan series, with 3375 runners starting off in sunny, warm conditions. The route stretched along the promenade, with views across Newton, Trecco and Sandy Bays, with a number of cross-country and marathon champions competing and supporting the event.  Sarn Helen Club husband and wife Nigel and Lorraine Davies took on the challenge, achieving times of 00:41:45 and 01:13:13 respectively.

Cycling: Dawn ‘til Dusk Challenge

Members of the Sarn Cycling Club have been clocking up some serious mileage as part of the Dawn ‘til Dusk Challenge to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s UK.  Hoping to complete over 200 miles in a series of loops around Tregaron and Pontrhydfendigaid, they rode from dawn until dusk, with a final count of 250 miles completed.

June 2019 Race Report

JCP Swansea Half Marathon

The 6thSwansea Half Marathon took place on 23 June 2019. This scenic, flat and face route had the added challenge of very warm weather conditions for runners, with an estimated 10,000 runners were expected to take part in the main 13.1 mile race, starting from the iconic Brangwyn Hall.  Sarn Helen results were as follows: Irfon Thomas 01:31:11, Steffan Thomas 01:39:55, Delyth Crimes 01:46:58, Matthew Walker 01:49:48, Enfys Needham-Jones 01:56:05, Nicola Williams 01:59:54, Elisha Leigh Jones 02:06:17, Sian Bela Jenkins, 02:13:11.

June 2019 Race Report

Ras y Llychau Talley 5k

On the evening of 24 May 2019, the sun shone for the 20th annual Ras y Llychau in the picturesque village of Talley, Carmarthenshire. With a total of 247 junior and senior runners of all ages, along with organisers and supporters, this popular event flooded the Abbey area.

Sarn Helen Club members have racked up the mileage this month, taking part in three events across Wales.

May 2019 Race Report (Part 2)

On the evening of 8th May 2019, the picturesque surroundings of the Hafod Estate saw Ras y Hafod, part of the Red Kite Challenge series, with trail races for senior and junior runners.

In the seniors 10k trail, 29 runners set out from the ruins of the Hafod Mansion house and followed a route stretching along the river Ystwyth, with climbs through woodland, across bridges and along forestry tracks; taking in bluebell banks and cascading waterfalls. Four Sarn Helen runners competed, with results as follows: Mick Taylor (51:22), Marc Davies (1:00:53), Rebecca Doswell (1:12:07) and Jane Holmes (1:12:07).
