Velindre Castle2Castle

The sun was shining brightly on Sunday 8th September for the Velindre Castle2Castle 11 mile run. Jane Holmes, who has received treatment at the Centre, and Nicola Davies , raising money with family members, represented Sarn Helen Running Club, starting at Caerphilly Castle and ending at Cardiff Castle to support Velindre Cancer Centre, Wales' premier Cancer Centre, providing care, support and treatment to 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond.

Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon

On Sunday 8th September the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon, first held in the late 1980s took place, raising money for local community groups and charities. Sarn Helen Running Club was well-represented, with members achieving personal bests, and results as follows: Nigel Davies, M45, 01:26:24; Irfon Thomas, MS, 01:26:45; Steffan Thomas, M S, 01:28:55; Mark Rivers, M40, 01:29:53; Tim Rayner, M55, 01:36:19; Nicola Williams, F S, 01:41:44; Eleri Rivers, F45, 01:42:59; Heather Hughes, F40, 01:44:15; Mitch Readwin, M S, 01:47:24; Enfys Needham-Jones, F45, 01:53:15; Sian Jenkins, F S, 01:58:48; Elisha Jones, F S, 01:59:50; and Emma, Gray, F40, 02:28:58.

Dawn Kenwright Talinn

Further afield, also on Sunday 8th September, Dawn Kenwright took part in the Tallinna Maraton 21 Km (half marathon) in Tallin, Estonia, achieving third F60 in a time of 1:49:13 – seconds behind the first and second F60s. The marathon and half marathon event welcomed runners from 65 countries, with 3388 half-marathoners and 2159 marathon runners crossing the finish line.

Graham Penn

Taking part in the Paras’ 10, an off-road race described as a gruelling 10 mile endurance race based on the 10 miler from The Parachute Regiment’s P Company test week, held at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire on Saturday 7th September 2019, with all proceeds going to benefit soldiers and their families, Graham Penn achieved a great time of 01:57:40 in the Veteran Men’s’ Category.

Pumsaint Half Marathon and 10k fun run

Sunday 15th September 2019 heralded the fifth Pumsaint Half Marathon and 10k run. The day was warm, but overcast, preceded by several dry days which was very fortunate as the route for both the half marathon and 10k run entailed crossing a ford and, further on, a river! Runners were treated to a well-marshalled and signposted course, with Welshcakes on the finish line, sandwiches, cake, tea and coffee in the village hall. First place in the Fifth Pumsaint Half Marathon, with a field of 81 runners, went to Matt Yelland of AV Harriers with a time of 01:34:30. In the 10k run, with a field of 30 runners, the first over the line was Scott Price with a time of 00:49:45. The route followed the first few miles of the Half Marathon, on an undulating course with several steep climbs and descents.

In the childrens race, with a field of the 33 runners, first place went to Johnathan Price with a time of 05:30, closely followed by Jack Caulkett with a time of 05:33 and Luke Thomas with a time of 06:06.
